Brace for incoming: New York head count

[livejournal.com profile] dferguson: I seem to recall that you and the Missus had plans to retire to Florida in the near future, but so far you're still in the Big Apple, right?

[livejournal.com profile] dochermes: You're upstate, and (I hope) far enough inland to be reasonably out of harm's way; you don't seem to do much commenting on other blogs, but I'll take your continued posting as a sign that you're doing okay. (And this discussion, no doubt, will have developed an acutely personal relevance.)

[livejournal.com profile] dungeonwriter: You picked an excellent weekend to spend out of town; again, I'm hoping that the brunt of Irene's onslaught will be well east of where you're staying, and that all your loved ones in the area are safely bunkered down.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] pfeffermuse: I hadn't realized that you live in that general area, too; your post on the subject seems to suggest that the farm is at a safe remove from the coast. The impression created by today's news coverage isn't boding well, but I hope your house in the city came through all right or is at least salvageable.

Take care of yourselves, everyone.

Yeah, we're still in NY. To listen to the news, you'd think that everybody should be building arks in their backyards. Me, I'm expecting a LOT of rain but nothing like the aquatic apocalypse they're predicting. Best thing about this is that I get to get some writing done.

Thanks for the shout-out, FMO.

We lost power around 1:00 pm yesterday, and just got it back on a few minutes ago.

As of Saturday, Irene wasn't supposed to come up this far, but it looked like she veered inland after hitting NYC (the funnel effect of New Jersey, the Long Island Sound and Connecticut forming that "V"). Lots of rain and wind here.

When it gets lighter -- and after that first cup of coffee -- we'll go out and survey things. BTW, we've got more than three stallions; those boys were just the teen herd. We've got another stallion and his two brood mares in one large pasture, and about twelve other mares, geldings and foals. Thankfully, they're not all ours. If you know anyone in the market for some beautiful Arabians, let me know ;-)

Thanks for thinking of me.

Pepper

Hugs, I'm fine, and so is my family.

I deduced as much from the absence of hurricane references in your after-con posts, but it's good to hear it expressly confirmed.
